Good evening friends.........
[2.2 facelift 2001] Read and followed a couple of the coolant flush and change guides and after draining by removing bottom hose and flushing system with hosepipe a couple of times I could only ever get 2 litres of fluid back into the system when refilling. Each time heater and blower on full heat. And running back up to temp. Therefore @ 50/50 mix ratio I must have 4 litres or so remaining in system [of pure flushing water], so this will mean I have a weak mixture? Yes?
So,
A. Whats the answer to getting more coolant out?
or:-
B. Shall I just give up and top up with 2 litres of neat if I try again tomorow?
Hope someone can advise............

If you are only draining the radiator you wont get all the coolant out.
To get most water out is to remove the water pump as well as the bung at the bottom of the radiator :y

...remove the water pump...
Bit drastic dude? Not going down that route till cambelt's due!

If you take care and do the bottom hose thaaaang when the engine is hot - take care when removing the header tank cap!!!!! - and flush it through then the thermostat should be open thus allowing a better flow of cooland and percentage change....

Followed this advice and the topping up took 3 litres of neat this time :) followed by a final half liter of 50/50. So all is good and up to the correct strength Thx.

Sounds close enough.... Personally, I try to go for the full 5 litres neat coolant and top up with water. if theres already some mixture in, then you are probably close to the mark. Well done!! :y
