Think the windscreen people used to use "superglue" to bond metal plate to windscreen Once gone off mirror will slide onto plate. Now windscreens come with plate already bonded.

will 'bog standard ' superglue hold a auto dim mirror ???

I had to stick the interior mirror back on in my MK1 carlton about 20 years ago. On that occasion I used old school (12 hours to set?) Araldite & it took more than one attempt. The glass needs to be absolutely clean & absolutely dry. Don't breath on it. Ideally pick a dry sunny day ;) (but if Flintshire is anything like Cornwall you might be better off warming the glass with a hair dryer first ::))
