Title: Juddering and cutting out :S
Post by: Xplicit 2.0 on 16 August 2009, 17:55:52
Ok, i have a bit of a concern for my car now. once i have been driving for an extended period of time, the car will every now and then (normally when i have stopped for any reason) will go well below idle or even just cut out.
Also, after the extended driving period, when i come to pull away from traffic lights/junctions etc the car shudders until i completely take my foot off the clutch... im hoping none of this is serious as i really cant afford to do anything to fix at this time in my life.
Any help greatly received,

cheers,

Sean

For the cutting out, have a read of Grumpy's excellent guide here:

Also do a paperclip test to look for stored fault codes as described here:

The juddering could be a few things; high-load misfire, fubarred engine mount, drivetrain/clutch prob.

Any oil in the sparkplug wells? A plug that's tracking over? (Look for black lines down the length of the outer ceramic insulator).

thnx, will look into all of these tomorrow with the old man (as much as i like to think i know about engines, i dont :P)

EDIT: with regards to the juddering, i forgot to mention that it seems to only happen if its hot (as in the engine) which is why i said about it only happening after an extended drive. dunno if that makes a difference

Second EDIT: O and would it still be the engine mount if i say that it feels as if its coming from the rear of the car?
