Title: coolant level when running
Post by: Bumbazor on 24 August 2009, 22:34:49
I have flushed and filled my cooling system to get all the air out and coolant round all the system and topped up to the level when cold.

When it's been running I notice the coolant level drops about half an inch. I don't think it's leaking now (I did think I had a leak but not that much after 15 mins) so is this normal, and as it returns to cold will the level rise again?

It sometimes takes a couple of hot/cold cycles to get all the air out.  If you still need to top up after a week or so, you still have a problem....   :(

its a self bleeding system so, as said, will take a couple cycles to settle down.

I had already done those cycles though...

with the cap on and the engine hot the pressure expands the rubber hoses, this takes extra water, as long as when cool you take the cap off, it goes back to normal alls ok. this is the reason for the cold arrow on the expansion tank.

I did think that but just wanted to check.
Thanks for confirming.
