Title: Replacing springs
Post by: Ryan Hegarty on 25 August 2009, 21:40:47
Hi all need to change springs in my 2.5 v6 estate, it's a bit boaty - should I change the shocks while I'm at it, car has about 150K miles on it.
Also can anyone recommend a set of spring compressors or will any do?
ps is there any how to's on this? need to change fronts and rears.

Thanks in advance m8y's. :y

Rears can be done by dropping the dif. Put car on axle stands and use a trolley jack to lower and raise the dif. Springs will slip in without compressing.  Disconnect ABS sensor leads etc and keep an eye on brake pipes as the diff is lowered. A couple of inches will do it. Fronts will definately need compressing.

...... Fronts will definately need compressing.

cos all the strut needs dismantling around them first.  ;)

Don'ty forget to mark them so you'll be able to re-set the camber reasonaly accurately again.  :y
I'm having a set of up-rated, standard ride height springs made as they are not available "off the shelf". Up-rated lowered springs no problem, but up-rated standard height just do not exist.

Can anyone recommend a good set of springs and shocks (front and back) for my estate, also need new rear self levelling shocks for the saloon  :'(, is it both the shocks and the springs that are different in the rear of the estate was thinking of putting new shocks and springs on the saloon and putting the old ones onto the estate. :-/
