Hi, ;)
Recently noticed that an 'F' is coming up on the the screen, its when I have the display showing how many miles of fuel I have left, the 'F' appears (figures dissapear) for a few seconds then its gone and figures come back.
Car runs normal when it happens, so not effecting anything that I can feel.
Car is 2000 facelift, 3.0mv6, auto.
Any ideas please. Thanks :y

only heard of that in relation to the outside temperature.
Is that reporting correctly?
-
Is the F shown when the car's displaying the outside temperature? Had that issue few days and it was a knackered external temperature sensor. New one sorted out the thing :y

As far as I am aware its correct, will double check though!!.
If it is to do with temp is there a fault?

Have not checked that, will do that and see!! :y
-
As Ziad said, probably your outside temp sensor - had similar with mine before.
-
So if it is temp sensor will it effect anything if I just ignore it or should I change it?? :y
-
If you have climate, it will affect it, but not sure about non-climate.
They're really cheap and easy to change (even I can do it!! ::)) Might be worth a post in the parts wanted/for sale section as someone is bound to have one.
-
He has climate it's a facelift :y
-
Have had this coming up on mine when I also had it on range and the abs ecu was faulty once I replaced the ecu all was sorted.

:D as it happens my ecu is faulty, got it booked in to be taken off for repair on monday :y

What will affect in case of climate equipped cars?My temp sensor is working but it shows bad values...for example the otside temperature is 30c and it shows only 24C, so always show less temperature...
-
The handbook says that 'F' stands for 'fault' so it makes sense that if the display doesn't know either distance or fuel level then it won't be able to work out fuel consumption (and hence miles to empty).
I don't know if the temperature sensor is NTC or PTC. If it is NTC (negative temperature coefficient) then the resistance will fall as the temperature rises. If you have a poor connection somewhere that adds resistance then the display would show an offset low temperature. Alternatively thermistors do fail. If you have an incorrect temperature reading I would try cleaning the connectors first before changing the sensor.

If the climate control doesnt know, or has the wrong outside temp, then it cannot apply heat / cold correctly to maintain you set temperature.
£6-7 new from Vauxhall

I think you're being misled re the temp sensor. As you say it's to do with miles per gallon.
When you say your ECU is faulty, which one? MPG, speed ec are worked out by the ABS ECU and if that's faulty it won't know how far or how fast you're going so will have trouble working out your mpg ... hence the F :y

Yeah actually it say's the car's doing 7mpg, I know its a 3.0 V6 but even they aren't that bad ;D
Its the ABS ecu thats faulty! abs,tc lights on and no speedo!!

You don't have to try too hard to make the instantaneous mpg go to 7.1 mpg! especially if you tow! ;D ;D ;D

Its common for F to come up on Range / Miles Left if the Mid has been swapped for Manual to Auto version (or other way round, cant remember) on the Mid display, if the fuel tank is low. Just a thought. :y

What he means is that if the display (MID) has been changed at any point of time and did not have any Tech-2 session to match it to the car, it's common for the F to appear. So, I guess that a quickie on the Tech-2 might do some good :y PM TheBoy and he could provide some additional info to you on your prob and Tech2

Hi,
My 2.5 estate is showing -11C and the climate is all wrong.
Where is the temp sensor located so I can check / replace it please?
-
Bottom of front bumper, on the passenger side iirc
-
Thanks for that.
I found it and cleaned the contacts and taped up the cable and it now works OK.
-
Problem solved!!!! ;D, since ABS ecu has been repaired its now not showing 'F' on display, thanks for all the suggestions :y
Mark.
