Thats a very polite way of saying NO ;D ;D ;D ;D

I got the w850i had no problems with it, :)

They don't work properly with the protocol stack we are encumbered with but that's hardly the phone's fault >:(

Erm, I think you're wrong there. The Ericsson phone bit will work perfectly, it's just the Sony music player and camera that will break. I guess that Sony is like the Alfa Romeo of the consumer electronics world?
In fairness, I've had a Sony Ericsson W810i for about 18 months and it is the best phone I've had. Never had a day's trouble with it and it does everything I want it to. When someone wants to talk to me it rings and when I want to talk to someone I call them, that's all I want it to do. :y

Tell me what you think of the N73 then :-? :-?

Our return rates for first year faults on SE 6, 8 and 9 ranges are negligable.
LG bit more and Nokia....oh dear :-/

Not sure Ericsson have any input into it.
And lets face it, Sony entirely lost the plot around 7 or 8 yrs ago...

Yes, I do.
I used to be pro Sony. Wouldn't consider other brands (excluding phones - theirs always were crap). Virtually every appliance in the house was Sony. Blinkered, like certain other members here ;).
Then about 7 or 8 yrs ago, I started noticing that all the new kit I was buying was pretty poor. But being pro Sony, I remained loyal. Until I made the mistake of spending £1500 on their top of range 28" TV. That was the final straw. Useless set. Sony UK said it couldn't be fixed, yet Sony in the rest of the world said it could. Turns out, Sony UK didn't want to implement the fixes due to cost.
Now, not being blinkered, I can see how poor (or purposely restricted) Sony products are.
Fortunately, now, Sammy Sledgehammer has educated virtually all the Sony gear in the house.

Whereas I have been lucky and still have a working 25 year old portable VCR

The phone section is 100% Ericsson (who are teh largest mobile chipset manufacturer on the globe)....in fact the electronics are 100% ericsson, the media software is Sony.

Sony Ericsson phones have excellent build quality, GUI is rather good to.
Almost as good as Nokia ;)
Nokia's build has dipped latley but back on track now with the very latest phones.
Nokia 6300 is an example of Nokia back to form, avoid Motorola phones, just plain awful! Their GUI has not been updated since the £1 note was in circulation.
N95 is a cracking phone, N95 8Gb is a nice update, and buid quality is up too.
We have some iPhones at work, fantanstic consumer device, but has some serious flaws:
Does not support wap pushes
no mms support, so no picture messaging
camera is appauling
no 3g capabilties.
The screen is cracking though! really amazing stuff.

It's a phone for the US market, where voice is king. Try composing a text message on one. :-X

you can get quite fast at typing, it just takes a lot of practice.
Screen gets covered in grim easily though.
be interesting when the developers pack comes out, torrent/skype/flash player/divX all on the cards.

As do I (actually, my little brother has it now). Think its JVC IIRC. That was old school Sony. Look at the longevity of their current crop of rubbish.

Remember, its Apple, and Apple are still trying to keep 100% control. The developer stuff is being released to calm down some of the anger about it being locked down. My own view is that the developer stuff will be 'limited' - shame, as it has potential

Nokia - used to be my personal favourite, imho, went off the boil a few years ago. Their styling was out of date when everyone wanted flip phones for some daft reason. They seemed to have been playing catch up ever since. In particular, from a laymans point of view, they have never truely got to grips with Symbian.
The N95 was released long before it was ready. Only now is it stable enough, but it should be approaching EOF now. And I find the latest software for it unusable - its horrible, bland, not user friendly.
I think the iPhone wins in terms of user friendliness, with Windows devices (proper touchscreen) a close 2nd. For power and apps, Windows wins hands down thanks to the fantastic tools available via .NET. Neither are much cop for 1 handed texting, but I find the Windows devices the easiest for texting (2 hands), but thats probably and age thing ;)
As a PIM, Windows probably syncs better than anything, though for syncing over-the-air it works best with an Exchange server.
As a Satnav, Windows runs TomTom better than Symbian due to the touchscreen.
If I was getting a new phone now, it would either be a Windows device, or a really simple no frills Nokia (the Symbian Nokias are just too unstable - even compared to the Windows devices!)

If I may add my two pence worth, I and SWMBO are still using Nokia 6210 similar to the slightly better 6310. Some of you may no it as the one that generally fits 99% of car kits left in cars.
They both still work perfectly, and do everything we could ever possibly want a phone to do.
I do admit mine is virtually never turned on, as I hate people phoning me at the best of times but SWMBO has hers on all the time 24/7 and they are both still on the original battery.
I am afraid we cannot excited about telephones, they are nothing but a nuisance.

Just reluctantly changed my 6310i for a 6300. Battery life is much less, it has a load of gadgets I'll never use, but not too bad once I'd found a GUI scheme that made some sense and turned off all the cr@ppy irritating noises it makes for no apparent reason >:(
Vibrate mode is rubbish though. Can't feel it vibrate through my trouser pockets.

we had 6210s for ages. they kept turning off, bloody things. 1st nokia i was disappointed with - too slow. the older 6110 was much more usable...
