can this engine be chipped to produce more power in particular more torque, 'cos yes I am a caravanner, there I've said it. I have decided that the 2.5TD auto I drive is a waste of time.
Reasons a. no performance (Ican live with that if....)
b. sh... at chugging along with a load on
c. even solo + driving like an old lady never seen more than 31 mpg
so can a petrol 2.2 be persuaded to produce especially more torque????
Thanks

V6s are cheap enough, chippable, and will give you much the same economy - and will have to work a lot less hard when towing.

ah well it's 4 cyl 2.2ltr sorry didn't clarify that. So not so good then?

Had my 2.2 vec remapped, and never noticed a blind bit of difference, which was £250 down the chute. >:(

2.5td can be chipped with good results, but if an auto, will need stronger gearbox

Get a 2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2 petrol thats your best bet :y
Or better still sell the caravan ;)

2.2 diesel can be remapped :y

yes and it is a good one for towing caravan when you do chip it:)
mine had a huge torque gain.
But all you guys, be aware. not all the chip tuners know what they do, even some that appear as very professional doesent have a clue....

You can chip it, but your gains will be as follow:
bhp goes up 10-15, and torque will go up 20-30 nm.
so you might not notice that change at all.
And chipping a natural aspirated petrol to make it a better caravan puller... thats no no
chipping it as a part of soft tuning with cams, filter and a sports exthaust. that is ok, all thought i would have spent my money on a turbo engine, or a turbo conversion kit.

Whilst running a 2.2 and 2.5 v6 at the same time there was only a difference of around 3 mpg but the V6 has way more torque. But then if your going for a v6 to pull your caravan you may aswell get a 3.0 instead of a 2.5 as I never really noticed a difference in economy between my mv6 and my 2.5.

Chip the tractor or get a V6

I’ve chipped a few 3.0 V6 petrols and some 2.5TD's now, The V6's give a slightly better low to mid torque but nothing to shout about in overall performance; however it does seem to improve economy especially when driving with MPG in mind.
The TD's are a well worth chipping or remapping with some significant gains to bring them up to the BMW spec, or a bit more with a few more tweaks, but as previously said no good for the Autobox.
It’s just a shame we never got the 2.5DTi block for the Migs in the UK unlike our European Opel's, they were good for chipping up to 200bhp whilst still maintaining good MPG. :(

Take a look at the Superchips web site. You will see that they can give you 28 extra Bhp (up from 128), and 93NM extra torque (up from 250NM), but, as has been said, you will need an AR35 gearbox.
They are readily available via here or ebay.
