Hi all,
I noticed the other night that my drivers side headlight leveling mechanism isn't working, but the passenger one is.
I will be putting the car through its MOT in the next few weeks, is it likely to fail on this?
If so, is it a new lamp unit job or are they fixable? :-?

It should be an MOT failure.
There is a leveller unit which plugs into the headlight at the back, they are the same on both sides so you should be able to make the fault move to the other side to prove the wiring etc is ok.
They twist in position and pull out - but be careful that they have to be aligned properly before you push them home and twist to lock in position.

I think it is a fault with the motor, as I can hear the one on the passenger side work when the adjustment switch is in use, but not the driver's.
If i set them both to be at a mid-ish level, will that get it through the MOT? Its not an item they normally test is it?

You cannot set them cause if the motor is dead it will always be pointing low

Level motors are cheap if you buy them from breakers (few of them here)

ask a couple of breakers on here like dave marshall or look nee .i got a pair of dave marsh .post in the wanted section good luck pj :y

So not hids if you have a hight adjustment switch in the car. If the aim is correct they "may" not look any further. They should check if they move correctly but rarely do ime. A gamble at mot time. But def should fail.

No they are not HIDs, just the standard projector mini-facelift items.
I am assuming fitting a new motor means removing the headlight unit from the car?
I only ask about it failing and MOT as not all cars have headlight leveling, so as long as they both appeared not to be too low or dazzling anyone, I didn't think they would test them, but weather that is true or not I don't know. :-?

That is the norm in my experience with the the testers i have had. As long the beam is accurate with the switch on zero they tend not to look any further. Had a similar intermitent issue on my old mig and always passed when it should have really failed. If you do have an issue the lights do have to come out to fix.
