codes running engine 1212 not running 3131 anyone help to decode thanks
-
12 is the start of the sequence..... nothing to worry about.
31 is an RPM fault (because it's not running)..... nothing to worry about.
I.E. You've got no codes stored ;) :y
-
12 Initiation of diagnosis
31 Engine RPM signal (crankshaft sensor) No signal - normal if engine not running.
[edit]Bu**er not quick enough!![/edit]

No faults stored as said, what is the problem ??
-

Hi Wayne and welocme to the forum.
Can you lets us know what Omega you have and what other problems there are.
-
Without more info I can't say why it's running like poo, but the eggy smell could be your aircon. The system builds up bacteria over a period of time causing the smell. I believe you can buy antibacterial deodorising packs that you place in the car with the aircon running for 10 mins or so, possibly from Halfords or good car accessory shops. Alternatively take it to an aircon specialist who can treat the system and change the filters.
-
Eggy smell is probably the cats if the engine is also running rough. First step is to paperclip it and see if there are any fault codes.

thanks for your comments i changed both cats and lumber switches still the same
-
As Kevin says, your best doing the paperclip test.

FYI, Tescos are selling the deodorising packs for about six quid :y

It's a way of reading fault codes without a diagnostic computer such as a Tech2. Have a look here.....

were do u get the codes from
You get the codes from counting the number of flashes from the EML (engine management light) on the dashboard. If you check out the video in the previous link I posted all will be revealed. :y
-
codes are when not running 3131 when running only got 1212
anyone know what they are please
-
duplicate thread so merging with http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1251478786
-
Hi Wayne, I may have made a wee confuddlement with merging your two threads into one (they are the same subject matter)
12121212 is the start/finish of the code initiation and, if the engine is running when you read this result, there are no faults stored.
The 3131 is the crankshaft sensor no signal code. If the engine is not turning then the sensor is not getting a signal, hence throws a fault. If the engine is running when you read, ergo, no fault as above.... :y
-
could it be plugs or leads causing it to run bad and smell of eggs
-
Check the plugs first.
If you remove a plug lead or three and you see oil on the lead then the cam covers are leaking and the oil is potentially shorting out the plug spark.
Clean out the oil in the wells with kitchen roll/syringe/turkey baster and try driving it again.
-
running bad and smells off eggs .ive changed cats and there is no faults on the paperclip test could it be leads or plugs?
-
thanks ill try that
-
Rotten eggs smell from the cats is caused by sulpher (Hydrogen Sulphide H2SO4 IRC). It is only usually noticeable during warm up when the cats are not functioning properly.
If you have had a period of misfiring or short journeys you may have built up deposits in the cats. Longer runs with everything working properly should clean them up again.
Cheap / supermarket petrol allegedly contains higher levels of sulpher (make your own mind up on that one ;))
-
Check plugs if ok, give it an Italian tune up :y
-
When my dis pack went '2 sparks AWOL' I had the rotten egg smell if thats of any use.
