Ok heres a strange one.
I recently ordered a replacment fan belt for my 3.0 MV6 1999. When it arrived I stripped her down only to find when I put it against the original it was longer. I didnt bother fitting this and rang my mate at vx. He said it should be the right one but there was one other option so he ordered that one. When it came I again stripped down only to find this was a good 2" too short >:(
I again rang my mate and he has stated that there are only the two options and that it must be the longer one so he has swapped it me again. Now when I had it off last time I noticed that it was a genuine vx belt and wrote the numbers down only for vx to tell me that it dont exist :-?
The part numbers issued are as below:
Origianl Belt (still fitted to car): FD912895 - 0826888
New Belt (longer than origianl): 93181720
New Belt (shorter that original): Didnt write it down!
Does anyone know what it should be??

V6 without aircon part nº 93181718 (same as 4pot with aircon)

Ok I will give it a try in the morning then. It just appeared that there was too much play in the belt against the old belt. But I need to get it changed asap as it has gone really brittle and hard.
Dont want it snapping on me on the way to reading next weekend!

HTH,
Pete :).
PS. It seems to me that both the belts that dbug has mentioned have had the last digit added to by 1 in the EPC that I've shown, Very odd :-?.

The one just fitted to my 98 Elite V6 3.0

Ok update!
Stripped and fitted belt this afternoon :y was extremly tight like you said but went on ok.
Also decided to look at leaking manifold while I was at it but not much success there :-/ The bolts to the remoaining heatshields snapped off and couldnt get to the rear bolt right at the back so put her back together. Im guessing that there must be a crack in the manifold as I cant see anythere where its leaking so need to find a replacment. Then I will strip it all down as need to remove the large steel waterpipe from the back of the engine to give enough room to reach all the bolts. Then hopefully I can cure the leak that really annoys me!!!! ::)
