I have a 2.6 manual Omega and its starting to worry me a bit with the gearbox. I know the manual box's on the cars are not the smoothest (poker in a bag of coal) but just lately its getting very hard to put it in 3rd and 4th gear...sometimes 2nd. this only happens when upshifting, when i downshift its super smooth. there are no grinding noises when it does go in gear. The cluth is not slipping either. When i'm stationary with engine running it goes in all gears easy but when i'm driving and building up speed i have to pause for a second before it goes into 3rd rhen 4th. 5th gear is fine. last year about 8000miles ago i gave it a flush and replaced the oil. sorry about the long post but i need to try and explain things.

Have you checked the oil level?
could be a bent selecter bar

Have'nt had time to go under and check the oil level(working 100 hours plus this week) but there are no leaks on the ground where its parked. How to i find out about the selector rod? does it have to come out to get at that or is it something i can check from under the car?

Not to sure about how you check that,
others will be able to tell you a bit more and have any other ideas what it is or how to fix it.

thanks mate, just been down to a specailist in leicester.. he says its syncro wearing so its a new box and while its off i may as well get the clutch done 130K on the clock. i.ve sent some begging PM's out to see if anyone can help me(never done a box swap before)the guy in leicester wants £200 just for fitting plus about £800 for a recon box.
I can get a second hand box so its just the fitting i need help with. nowhere to do that sort of work at home so i'll have to take it to whoever wants to help.
P.S will pay someone plenty for the work

Just an update..... Went to Marky Marks yesterday to get the gearbox swapped over. Put an R28 in to replace my phubar'd R25. What a difference its like its got a turbo or something. The ratio of the R28 must be a lot different because i seem to have got much more power. She's much quicker than before and a lot easier to keep to a constant speed.
She still seems a little stiff when going into 3rd and 4th but at least she does go in now. unfortunately we could,nt sorce a new clutch so i think that may cure the gear changing problem.
thanks for all your help :y
