Off to France and have been told that I need to have a spare set of headlamp bulbs in the car. Yikes, I've just checked and they are £105 each! Is that right?

From memory, HID lighting is excluded from the requirement but, you still need a bulb kit to cover the other lights (note, Vx dealers are quitre reasonable for a bulb kit!)

Here is a useful site that gives info and the what is compulsary and what is ecommended for europeon countries:

Note, a bulb kit in France is not compulsary

Well germany is wrong for a start, it says a first aid kit is recommended, if you dont have one you will get a 80 euro fine if you dont have one with you.
I know that for a fact.

HID bulbs are excluded as they are a non servicable part, supposedly requiring professional change due to the high voltages involved...
You can however get them MUCH cheaper on ebay etc :y

Much appreciated.

pretty certain spare bulbs are req for france. high vis jackets + 2 triangles for spain.

I did change my Xenon bulbs with a cheap brand (about half price of Osram). They burned out within a year. :'(
So I did bite the bullet and got the expensive Osram brand.

Maybe, just maybe, someone with access to some secondhand spare bulbs, could get a bulb kit or two together for rental, that'll cover the HID problem, they could pay the postage and return them when done.
A small price to pay if you blow an HID on the Continent :-/

Car bulbs direct were doing the D2S 4300k phillips ones for £50 each. I got mine from there.

This is true! its why Mercs, Bimmers & VAG cars all have first aid kit holders
