Well I have been well and truly shafted by the guy that sold me this car, with all the things that have gone wrong in the first week. Finding out that the stalling issue had already been diagnosed as being the injector pump being the most galling one! then of course having the water pump fail, then the thermostat housing and all the other problems!
the check control screen has been coming up autobox of and on since i got it, but yesterday the car has started to judder violently while starting off (if it doesn't stall of course) also the gearbox feels like its slipping now. when you use the kickdown the engine redlines but there is no increase in speed. I thought perhaps that the ATF level was low causing the clutches to slip causing the juddering on take off. However i have just changed the gearbox oil and it's still doing it, unless the fill plug on the rear, larger sump is not the correct one to fill (?)
Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem here? Has the first gear clutch given up the ghost?
To be honest I have never been so disappointed by a car. I got myself into debt to buy it and just about every major component has failed or malfunctioned in the first week of owning it, and the worst of it is I had to sell my absolutely immaculate cavalier (full leather etc) 2 litre 16v for peanuts to pay off some of the debt. i loved that car to!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Did you fill the box while the car was level, warmed up (gearbox) and running.

Sorry to hear of your woes mate. Try putting your location up and maybe someone near would be willing to have a look

yeah, I filled it till it started coming out of the filler plug hole, then started the engine and waited till the sump was hot to the touch, then removed the plug again and filled til itwas coming out again.
I'm thinking perhaps the first gear clutch is fubar. anyone have a manual box spare for a 2.5td? oh i'm in blairgowrie, scotland by the way ;)

Sorry no box here. They are fairly easy to come by and not to expensive. Might be worth adding you location to your profile and then try the parts section on here.

Dont know myself (someone will answer) but you could maybe fit an AR35 box from a 3ltr petrol as they are much stronger.

I had considered fitting an AR35, because i was wanting to do the chip upgrade to get it to the bmw spec, but I'm not sure that i like the autobox, it never seems to be in the gear that i would be in.
Getting up to the cottage i live in is a long steep hill, my 30 year old landrover gets up it easier with about half a ton more weight and only 50 bhp, the omega does it in first gear, then second for a second or two then back into first and so on, I get between 7 and 13 mph in the omega, and it uses three times the amount of fuel in that 1/2 mile than i do in the 40 miles before that hill on my way home from work.
I think if i'm gonna have to change the gearbox, which it looks like i'll have to, i'm gonna stick a manual in. The auto's nice and relaxing, but i'm not really sure i could live with it for long.
I have a carlton/senator hybrid which has a 20SEH and manual gearbox which i'm thinkning about fitting, but I will start a seperate thread about that! wish I'd just held out for a senny, that's what I really wanted!
