Hi, have read some posts which have included a brief discription on how to detach the heater hoses from the matrix.
I have pressed the tabs & slid the ring back as far as it will go on both the hoses. Turned them back & forth to help free them but neither will budge.
Is there a knack to this?

Never done it on a mig but in my experience of other cars heaters the hoses "weld" themselves to the fitting. determination is what is needed when access is poor. Keep twisting and they will free up, normally.
Failng that my advice would be get some new hose and cut the old ones off. Its only MY advice and there may be a better option for migs but if they a re that hard to get off I would worry about getting them to seal again afterwards.

Sory forgot to say try getting some pliers on the hose. BE CAREFULL not to split them if you plan on using them again. Pliers get a much better hold of the pipe.

Hi Al. I have some new hoses but dont want to go too mad on the removal part in fear of damaging the matrix.
This leak has been imposible to trace so far but in my efforts to cure it i want to avoid causing future ones.

If you have new hoses and can get to the joins, just gently and repeatedly run a stanley knife down length-wise until you are about past the matrix. Then bend the pipe and it should split and open up around the union, just be gentle and you will be fine.

If you're not removing the matrix and replacing the hoses wouldn't a gentle slit with a very sharp stanley blade help?

The knack, in my experience, if you're completely certain that the clips/locks are in the 'open' position, is to use brute force.
You won't damage the matrix, as the pipes that go through the firewall don't connect immediately to the matrix, they do a bit of a wiggle around on the way down to it, and are clamped in one or two places.

Well no matter how hard i pulled the would not budge. Had to knock the locking collars off both pipes in order to get them off
