Well, here we go with a problem that i have on my v6 tourer, last year i gave the old girl a whizz down to alicante in spain, and the drive went like a dream.
After a few days into the holiday the air con seemed to be struggling to keep up with the heat which was about 90 degres. LOVERLY. ;D
So when we got back i had the system vac'ed and gassed by my pal at vx in kingston and the air con was once again tip top.
After a week the air con was now not switching on at all so it went back in to be re done[At no expence to me i might add]. Again it would only last a week.
So this tuesday i booked it into vx for a full system check and re gass. After extensive checks with a uv lamp over all the joints and seals, the evaporator and condensor including the reciver dryer, no leak can be found. they have even used a sniffer to detect gases but it can not detect anything.
It was regassed yesterday and was empty again this morning when the car was started.
Has anyone on here ever experianced this problem and have any views on what it could be.
When the system is vac'ed it is pulling a vacum so seems as the system is ok but it wont hold pressure.
HELPPPPPPPPPPP :)

This is a first, no one?

has it been pressure tested?

mine was a pig to find, pin prick size whole in condensor only visible looking up from underneith in the gap between radiater and condensor itself and only showed 5p sized splodge of dye.
They should have leak tested it first off surely? could they now be trying to hide the fact....sorry wouldnt touch a dealer "with yours".... :-/ ::)

Yes the system has been leak tested and held up ok, it holds vacume as well and runs without problems when gassed but leaks ALL the pressure when the car is left over night, still showing no signs of leaks with the dye in the system and the sniffer produced nothing as well. when i left the dealer yesterday my pal was pulling the fan motor to get access to the evaporator to visually check that but he found nothing.

The source of the leak was eventually found to be the compressor, after 4 regasses and leak tests and a larger than normal dye charge it it finally gave up its secret, a leak from a small crack in the alloy case near the hose connections.
Have managed to source a good S/H unit and wil be fitted asap. Very happy now i know it is not the evaporator. ;D
