Title: Auxiliary drivebelt tensioner
Post by: joe1969 on 27 September 2009, 10:46:42
Hi,

My 3.0 Elite is vibrating very badly when idling.

When i looked at the engine i noticed the aux. drivebelt tensioner wasn't spinning although the drivebelt is still going around it.

Will it have done any damage to the engine and also how much will it cost to replace the tensioner?

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe and welcome to the forum :)

It sounds like you have been lucky and caught the tensioner in time, you can buy just the pulley from the dealer and IIRC they are about £20, beware though the dealer may try and sell you the complete tensioner assembly ::)

And obviously don't drive until replaced, as the belt will fail, loosing water pump.

Might be worth buying new belt at same time, as that would have taken a battering

Hi,
Many thanks for your replies.  :y

Is it just a case of taking the belt off , unbolting the old one and putting the new one on.

Basically yes, but is a little fiddly.
