when swapping an engine over, and there is an aircon system present on the original motor, what considerations are there in respect of an any of the air conditioning system? do you need to get this de/regassed by a pro or do you not need to touch the air con system at all to swap an engine?
thanks :y

When I lifted the engine out of my 1994 V6 several years ago I followed the instructions in the Haynes book of lies and had the a/c degassed first.
It caused me no end of grief because one of the pipe connections was seized and I destroyed it getting it undone.
When I took my cylinder heads to be skimmed I was told that I could have unbolted the compressor from the engine and tied it to one side >:(
If I needed to lift the engine out of my current car I would definitely try doing it without degassing.
-
so you can unbolt the compressor, move it away and this will enable you to remove/refit the engine without having to tamper with the aircon system? you can leave it alone, bolt it back up on the new engine and it will operate as before?!

Thats what I was told (but I haven't done it myself). Hopefully one of the Omega Barons will drop by later and tell us how they do it :y

Havent changed an engine in these, but as the AC comp is on the bottom of the engine it should be ok to unbolt it from the engine first and leave it attached to the AC system. The pump will work fine after you refit it as you are not breaking into the system itself.
I am sure someone who has removed engines will correct me if you cant get the engine out with the comp still in place.

Can't speak for the V6 lump but I have just swapped a 2.0 lump and just un bolted the aircon compressor and power steering pumps and tied them out of the way.
-
my 2.5 engine was removed and replaced. Air con system not touched, except to push pump to side
-
Not as easy as it sounds though to move the air con pump out of the way and certainly a ball ache to refit it :-?
Alot of swearing/coffee breaks needed ;D
-
cant see it being a problem if you can keep the pump out of the way tbh. :y

But this is the thing.... You will need to pull out the pump with air con hoses attached through the bracket, which there seems to be an art to which I aint found yet ;D ;D ;D it is the going back in that creates nightmares :D

This can be done guy's, lift engine up on hoist and remove bolts, on way back in just refit before droping on engine mounts.
-
you make it sound very easy :D
-
well one way or another this is something i guess i am going to have to contend with... varying ideas on how difficult/easy this is... *gulp*
