Title: EGR passages?

Can anyone describe me the function of air flow for the EGR system on the x20xev?
I do not entirely understand, where the air actually passes from exhaust side, via the EGR valve, and back to inlet manifold.
Are there any drillings in the cylinder head to lead air, does it return to the acctual manifold or the pipe before that etc....

it regulates the exhaust gas flow, sucks air in the black round thing it has a filter in side it, the vale move with the presure of the engine tells engine to use more or less fuel etc, think thats about it, may be a bit more but cannot remember at mo. :y :y

A drilling in the cyl 4 end of the head takes exhaust gases to the valve, through the yellow-arrowed hole in the flange shown.  It comes out of the valve (no filter) where the blue arrow starts, and runs along horizontally in a channel in said flange, then emerges (green arrow) into another drilling in the head that turns 90° and  feeds into the inlet manifold (through a channel that goes to near the TB).  

Would have been easier to see if I'd cleaned away the crud before I photographed it.   ;D

Thanx a lot, but this picture, is this from a flange mounted on the cylinder head...? which is removable?

Yes, at the rear end of the head.  Wouldn't really want to try to remove and replace with the head in place though.  It's only 3 bolts, but access is horrible.

I only took this one off because the head was already off.

Gee, thanks a lot! this really solved a few issues surrounding my next project, how to clean passages between EGR and inlet side:)
I have removed EGR and DISpack sereval times for inspection and cleaning, i'm not gonna do that again without removing panels and wiper arm assembly, that really helped!
Oh, BTW, what kind of sealing for the flange? o-ring og loctite seal paste?

Cardboard type gasket.

I'm not sure that I'd call this gasket 'cardboard type'.

I got one as part of the headgasket kit (from Vx), but didn't photograph it before fitting. 

If I had to describe it from memory, I'd say it was a dull grey metallic colour, but not solid metal.  Maybe 2mm thick and slightly 'squidgey'.

It has to form a coolant seal, and an exhaust gas seal (in close proximity), so it won't be just any old bit of gasket material.

What I didn't find when fitting my flange back on, was the correct torque for the 3 fixings.  IIRC there's two that are one size, and the third is a bit smaller.  :-?

I just (evenly) applied a reasonable amount of grunt in proportion to the bolts' diameter.

Hope this reply isn't too late, I've been on holiday.  :)
