Guys, When trying to start my 3.2, it makes the sound as if the battery is flat, but the GM battery indicator is on green showing the battery is ok. When the car gets a jump start it starts first time. Ive jumped it and took it for a long run, got back home and it wont start again. Any ideas? Is it common the battery indicator can be wrong. 14volts getting to the battery so looks like alternator is ok. Any ideas guys?

Sounds like 1 or 2 of the battery cells dying.I had this problem battery test showed 12v but when trying to start i didn't have the power.new battery sorted it out but check all the cables first before buying a new one.

If you need a battery, i've got a Vauxhall and Halfords Trade cards, just drop me a line ;)

battery has not got the gutts to start it. happened on my 3.0 gsi, but i got a second hand alternator just to make sure. batteries can be tested but bosch wanted mine back leaving me with no battery, as you can imagine i told them where to go, binned it and got another, may be my loss but it was engineered to be an unworkable system!

The positive connector is covered in white powder, Ive been told, poor a cup of hot water over the connector, is this right?

I was just about to blame your battery, seems like you have found the problem now. Clean off all the white stuff, use steel wool, and coat with Vaseline, I bet you have no more trouble. :y

Not sure water + battery is a good idea! ;D
I'd get some petrol based gunk and clean it up with a wire brush!
Got a volt meter? check the voltage in the battery when engine off, and running.

That is what I was advised to do years ago. A kettle full of boiling water to dissolve and flush away the sulphuric acid and its corrosion products. When it has dried (and cooled down) apply petroleum jelly (aka vaseline) to the terminals.

To stop battery connections from turning into powder put some grease on the poles before you connect the leads! ( not can grease), and use a copper brush to clean the terminals,( less damage to poles). :y :y

oh and its an amp meter you need not a volt meter, needs good amps. 65amps to 85amps should be good enough to start a petrol or a diesel. :y
