Hi
my car was stood off the road for about one year - since it has been resurrrected and tested etc it has developed a misfire. This has happened 3 times and only after filling with fuel, the misfire lasts for 1/2 hours of running and then is fine.
My theory is that this is condensation in the tank, that filling up is dispersing this causing the misfire and then after a while it settles again to a puddle in the bottom of the tank, giving no problems until I fill up again.
Does this sound feasible or is there another problem I have not thought of.
In the event it is water/other substance in the tank what is my best way of removing it. What about meths to mix with the water?
Is it possible to short out the fuel pump relay ( as i did with my old carlton when I filled the tank with diesel) and if so where is this relay. I would rather not have to take the sender unit out and fish around in the tank.
Any ideas/suggestions welcomed

tis possible, there are additives to mix it and burn it. although im never sure of additives. you sould have a fuel filter though. some have a draining bowl, some need replacing. this is general stuff. someone will come on soon and tell you the answer.

some fuel gose off and water can get in, happens with my generator, every year, just when i need it, would flush out the engine with some good fuel cleaner when you have emptyed the tank and changed the filter, remember to decrompess the fuel line before you start,(valve in engine bay). :y :y good luck hope it gose well :y :y the purple relay is in the ECU box at top. next to the red injector relay. :y just flush out with petrol nothing else put some fresh petrol in and swill the tank (yes the tank take it off)then dont use the fuel in the tank again. :y

Actually caused by condensation within the tank, especially if it's not totally full, and car's left idle for long periods.

According to t'internet, Isopropanol is used 500ml/40L petrol to absorb any water and then just burn through the system with the petrol. Apparently a standard method of clearing water from fuel tanks/lines - sounds straightforward and cheap.
Has anyone experience of doing this, sound a lot better than draining tank etc!

Sounds like a good time to open up the inspection lid, clean out the filter, and get rid of any water, not a bad job, and you don't have to disturb the pump if you don't want to.

have used it before not that good can harm the CAT, then thats a new CAT, unleaded cleaner, tank cleaner, or best way is to get rid of the fuel, before it makes your engine wores, at least you know it will be gone. :y
