Thanks to Dazzler I have got a number of parts for my HG replacement at an extremely good price.
Having never done it before I would appreciate some help in identifying some of the parts as my EPC has stopped working.
Firstly I have what looks like manifold gaskets however I have a bag with part number 24416110 on and inside are three metal gaskets, I also have a "card" gasket that looks exactly the same as the metal ones. How does this work?

Next I have two different head gaskets - One is p/n 9128744 and the other is 9129105. 9128744 has perfectly round piston holes and 9129105 has the holes flattened on one edge. Is one of these right for a 98 3.0 V6?

Finally I have three bags each containing two rubber and metal seals. Part number on these is 90298390. Are these cam shaft seals? If so are they the right ones for my car?

Thanks for any help.

yep they are camshaft seals, seem to remember its not worth replacing those unless the current ones are donald ducked. But a V6 owner can confirm...
-
Thanks Tunnie. I seem to remember TB or MDTM saying that at some point too. :y
Anyone help with the other stuff?

They look to be about the correct size, certainly the correct type ie lip seal, have you compared them to your cylinder heads.
I'd have to disagree with Tunnie though. Lip seals are a few quid to buy but can cost hundreds to fit because of the time taken to get to them, so I'd change them all anyway whie it's in bits. Be carefull when you fit them, makes sure they go in square. The best example I can think of is a rear crankshaft oil seal, costs a few quid to buy, but all the gearbox etc has to come out to gain access. :y

Andy I am sure I remember someone saying that the replacements are rubbish compared with originals or am I thinking of something else?
Assume I would need 8 of them to do all 4 camshafts?
Now that I have all my stem seals can I borrow your valve spring compressor? When is best to come and pick it up next week? :y

Your right, but thats on pattern kits yours does have a GM logo on it?
99% sure DTM said with pattern gasket kits, not to bother replacing cam shaft seals.

Ok thanks Tunnie.
Mine are GM parts so will replace them then. :y

Anyone know how the manifold gasket works then?
Is there three metal layers and one "card" layer per side?
-
The metal exhaust manifold gasket has superseded the composite one. use the metal one its better :y
-
So the three metal layers are all that are needed? :y
-
Yes, you only need a single gasket on the exhaust manifolds and use the metal layer ones.
On the head gaskets, the top one looks like a 3.0 parta dn teh lweor one a 2.5.
As for the cam seals, each cam has one (so 4 would be needed) and pattern items are total shite with genuine being stupidly expensive.
Hence, re-use of the old ones is the generaly preferred route.

Thanks for all the help guys.
Mark - As the new ones I have are genuine is it safe to use these or is it still better to use the old ones?

Given they are genuine, use the new ones. :y
