firstly hello again omega brothers!! ;)
car is 2001 2.6 v6 elite
i completed doing the oil cooler change and removed nearly all the water pipes to flush the sludge out under hot tap so as to give the rad flush a fighting chance..
put everything back 2gether as meant to be.filled water up and flushed out a few times.(letting engine reach running temp everytime).
now i'm trying to fill the system up for the last time.
thing is when i first drained the system loads n loads of water come out but every time i fill her,run her for a bit fill abit more.keeping cap off!!at a certain point the water starts to push up and out!!.is that rite(is that when the thermostat opens??)??so i put cap on run her for a bit cool, down and take cap off but she dont seem want any more water ? top hose and bottom go hard when at running temp.so i'm sure the thermostate is openning(inspected thermostate whilst engine woz stripped and it woz almost brand new!!) does it take several days and numerous inspections to finally get all air locks out? :-?..
but at the mo theres defo not as much water gone in as first come out??
all feedback is greatly appreciated as always ma freinds!!
thanking u muchly lads!! :y :y :y
cheers...

From cold, slowly fill your system via the header tank, & at the same time you need to be 'burping' the major/large hoses to/from your radiator. Start the engine and top up as the water pump initially moves water around. As the stat opens, you'll find the water level goes down again. Top it up & fit the cap. Keep an eye on the level over the next few days and top up as required ........ that's it! :y

nice 1 andy i'll be giving that a try 2morrow buddy..just been reading thru other cooler probs and 1 blokes mentioned a drainage cap on the bottom of the rad which can help with bleeding when refilling??..with the tricks you just told me and maybe using this drainage cap ?? the job will be sorted..
cheers for the advice cheif.. :y :y

The drain tap, bottom corner of the radiator - passenger side, is just that, a drain tap. ;) Leave it closed when filling system.
Also put heater to hot, to ensure a flow of coolant through the heater matrix :y

i do mine the old way, disconet the fan wire, fill with water and leave the top off, run engine when you see there is no bubbles coming out of the header tank turn engine off and leve to cool down then top up with anti-freeze, (leave heaters open). works every time and dont get an air lock in the heater matrix. :y

....
disconet the fan wire, .....
Why? :-/

it stops it trying to cool the engine so you can get all the air out, that the way i was told to do at colleage, as running engine with out water, and then put it in, has the tendencey of cracking the block, :y

Fan won't run until it's circulating water through the rad. and up to full working temperature. Even if it did, the thermostat controls the engine temperature, not the fan. And why would you run it without water?
I must say I've never had a problem with air locks. Just fill until expansion tank is full, run it with the lid off while "burping" the radiator hoses a little, then lid on, give it a run and top up afterwards. :y

never had to top up at all, or press the pipes, works for me did it two years ago and still nothing wrong, do it that way as told to. all done in 1hr :y

For anyone doing this, I would recommend doing it the proper way as stated by Kevin Wood above.
None of the Omega engines are particularly prone to air locking to be honest (if it were, they would have fitted bleed screws once discovered). The 2.5TD can be a tad to bleed, as the autobleed hole in the stat is (by necessity) tiny.

Whole heartedly agree :y :y :y
