Title: L/H wishbone
Post by: Martin_1962 on 11 October 2009, 12:20:20
This took me about 90 minutes, lost 10 looking for my 3/8th drive 22mm to do the top of the rear bolt.

The BPB wishbone I took off was rusty :o :o, the the bush looked OK.

Pulls up straight now :y

The Buy parts By Wishbones are completely shit, the two that have just come off mine have split the bushes. Now got the original genuine GM wishbones fitted with new Delphi ball joints and Meyle bushes fitted (Thanks Sassanach for pressing them in!), instant transformation in the way the car handles.

Well my new ball joint and poly bushed ones pull straight and the steering is slightly more accurate.

Bit more road noise through suspension but I can live with that.

Not sure what to do with the BPB wishbones though

Check the tracking. Poly bushes pull everything in tight, so it's highly likely the tracking will be out. :y
Mine was out a fair bit.

I was going to refurbish them as well but looking how thin the metal in the construction of them is compared to genuine GM i'm not going to bother as I think they'll distort when removing the bush.

This is an interesting thread, as I was just about to buy a pair of wishbones on e-bay. Can anyone recommend a compatible wishbone that is good quality, but cheaper than GM?

Thanks

I got mine from AutoVaux £125 delivered (Pair + new bolts). The actual items were not listed on the site but a phone call 01924 376003 and all was sorted.

Going by the name and location ... you a FE at "a secret air base somewhere in the heart of wiltshire" by any chance or do you just like Griffons and contra-rotating props ??

personally would not fit anything other than Lemforder or Mark Dtm upgraded items.(genuine with better bushes)
Having said that i know other members have fitted sets for £50 and been quite happy, fia rings a bell? Not sure though. Get what you pay for at the end of the day, imho at least.

I have 2 genuine rear bushes if anyone is interested, then all you need is the uprated front bushes. Job done at fraction of the cost :y Also have a n/s Topran(Lemforder) wishbone new.
Sorry for the butt in :-[
