Title: How much for a new set of front springs, fitted?
Post by: Abiton on 16 October 2009, 20:39:10
As title folks.

Had new wishbones/droplinks a couple of years ago, followed by WIMmage, but the inside edges of the front tyres are starting to go again.  I'm inclined to think the springs are really past their best. (And wheels-inmotion's FAQ suggests that this is the most likely fundamental problem.)

Some kind fella put up a list a few months ago that leads me to believe that I could get the appropriate genuine springs (90540869) for about £140 + VAT on TC; but what about fitting?

Don't have the tools or the talent to do it myself.

Thoughts appreciated,

Pete

Have half a day's xmas shopping at Merry Hill and I'll do 'em for you :y

Remember to budget for getting it re-WIM'ed again afterwards though.

Thanks for that kind offer; one that may just get taken up.

It did occur to me just after posting that it would almost certainly need reWIMing (almost sounds rude  :-[).

If it weren't for the (poor) handling implications of leaving it as-is, it would be tempting to just keep throwing new tyres at it.  Despite recent headgasket, the car's future probably isn't many more years.  :-/

Easy enough to mark them up to get them close to where they are now, I'd still get them checked properly afterwards though.

Yeah, I guess it would be pretty sad to do the springs and then end up wearing out the outside edges.  ;D

Don't suppose anyone can supply a height measurement of a 2.0 of '96-ish vintage on standard wheels/tyres, but on new, or nearly-new springs?
I dunno where one might measure, middle of front wheel-arches to deck??

Almost impossible to be accurate unless you park them both in exactly the same place due to the angles of the surface and what's in the car.
