iv,e read some where a thread re this prob but can,t find it. when i turn the key it,s as if the s/motor is not engaging. iv,e read somewhere about a worn ignition, or a relay situ behind glove box - its not the hotfix prob :) :) any help much appreciated

it could be your immobiliser, as if not working it will not let you start the engine. check fuse's, or has a fuse blown recently.
check battery.12-13volts is good. switch lights on when trying to start look for the lights to dim.
check volts to ecu, (dose light come on)
thats the none start list.

Immobiliser doesn't stop you cranking the engine over on the starter, it'll never start though!
-
Immobiliser will still allow you to crank it, as said.
Check to see if you are getting 12 volts to the smaller terminal on the starter solenoid. This signal passes through an interlock switch in the autobox selector switch so that's a possibility. Try rocking the gear selector, if auto, which turning the key. Failing that try starting in both N and P positions.
You could try jumping this terminal to the battery positive terminal to see if the starter then engages. make sure it's in neutral first though.

Immobiliser dose what it says on the tin Immobilise and it say it on tis as every one keeps going on about, i looked first. a fault Immobiliser or Immobiliser not dactiving will not alow the engine to be turn'd over, othere wise what is the point of having an Immobiliser, might as well just have a switch.

Where do you get this info from :-? :-?. If the immobiliser is faulty the engine will STILL crank but doesn`t receive fuel/spark

Agreed and the eml light will flash if its an immobiliser problem! A little knowledge is dangerous when trying to help other members :-?

well i offer you to come round and try and start mine with the immobiliser (crank) the engine, same on father inlaws, as it will not doit until its turn'd off, allso say's it in the tis 2000 disc, that the boy is allways on about, and on mine if the immobiliser is not working it only comes up on tec2 no lights. farther inlaw's red light flashes 3times.

no immobiliser,s ok the engine usually starts. it,s very intermittant. the key seems quite loose. i know iv,e read where a problem can occur with ignition lock itself or a relay situated behind the glove box. i can,t find that post :y

immobiliser will allow you to crank the engine, it just won't fire.
If you take the transponder out of the key, you can still crank the engine.

(immobiliser will allow you to crank the engine) well all i can say is that you dont have a very good immobiliser and at least i know mine works, and farther inlaws works, and my mate's vetra works as well, cos all ours dont let the engine crank over at all. no power to ecu no power to ignition.
