Dramatic story about violent weather and 51 flood warnings on BBC website. Any details? No! >:(
Didn't even say tonight or tomorrow. Go to BBC weather, and there's no mention of the warnings at all! :o
What is the BBC, a tabloid? All emotion and no public benefit? Glad to know that my TV license is being put to good use. >:( >:(

At the risk of being branded a regionalistic, anti-english, narrow minded Scot, please remember that the BBC, otherwise known as the London Broadcasting Estimate, still fails to recognise that there is anything north of the Watford Gap..... Or east, south or west of the M25 layby, for that matter. Anything reported weatherwise should be taken with a LARGE look out the window.... :D :y

Yeah, I have noticed that outside the M25 might as well be another country, and not just for the BBC. ::)

the bbc is going down hill latley, and its not just the programming either.....
When i was chatting to Chris Barrie (Rimmer from Red Dwarf) he was saying that the BBC has also cut back in staff in a BIG way. There is a royaltie departartment, which handles payment of Royalties to actors.
It used to have 80 members of staff, it now has 2.
It takes ages apprently for actors/staff to get their royalties... talking years here!

No reason for them to do better I guess.
Rimmer is an icon! :y

you got that right... weather's pretty damn good here, no wind, no rain, apart from the wet roads of earlier showers, and its actually not even cold out!!!!!

:)In the collective use the BBC ARE useless as oppose to IS. Just thought i'd politely point that out Broocie. Sorry but i'm a product of my upbringing!!!
I've got a horrible feeling i'm about to be shot down in flames!!!!!!
Engage grovel mode. :'(

Seriously though, the BBC should be accused of public disturbance or something. It is mind-bendingly irresponsible, especially as a national public news institution, to hype up natural disasters without providing hardly any guidance on which areas are at risk and when - not to mention what to do if you are in those areas! They should be primarily providing the information, and secondarily using the emotional side to drive home the severity of the situation. If it isn't a big deal, then they shoudn't be hyping it up so much!
Is this stuff really that hard? :-?

I was being impersonal and referring to the corporation/institution . . . ::)

To be fair, I was indending the same.
No offence intended but, every winter, the world according to the BBC will grind to a halt because of frost/snow/choose suitable weather option. Unless you are north etc of the prequoted Watford Gap..... Up our way, its the accepted norm that when it gets towards wintertime, the weather closes in and it gets more difficult to get to/from work and that some rural schools may need to close, early or otherwise. And I have no doubt thast the same applies to other further flung areas of Engerland and beyond....
The tuppenceworth I was adding was that, contrary to popular conception, the whole of the UK - north, south, east and west - does not start and stop at the Beeb induced M25 boundary..... ;)
-
:)Watford Gap? That's N'hants, i'm surprised Auntie Beeb made it past Newport Pagnell. ::)
-
You may knock but look at the alternatives (TV producers) not looking good
-
You don't seem to understand that the BBC has become an intensely political organisation. It has little interest in reporting general events like the weather, accidents, street crimes and so on. These things are left to the regional news programmes which, in the case of BBC London at least, are dropped with preference given to reporting on Ken Livingstone's latest stunts and any local stories to which there is a political angle.
The only time the BBC is interested in the weather is when an event is used to justify its politicised stance on Global Warming.
Used to be good. Now it's rubbish. >:(

:)Not being much of a telly watcher it sounds like the BBC are turning into ITV. Just getting this from your posts. I have 3 sets, one downstairs, a portable in the bedroom & a littl'un in the truck, but i get left behind when folks here or at work talk about what they watched etc 'coz i sometimes don't see any telly for days at a time. If i want to watch something i watch it then switch the set off when it's finished. :D

Weather is but a poor example... But it serves to show the chaos that ensues in the greater London area when its gets a bit blowy/damp/white and therefore the Beeb presumes that it is newsworthy for the greater nation as a whole. Dont get the same when it affects Newcastle/Dublin/Manchester/Glasgow/Edinburgh/wherever cos we should be used to stuff like that, apparently....
Same goes for something such as a strike that affects the masses in London but where the rest of the UK really does not give a tuppeny one or indeed other similar parochial things......
Does London really want to know that a crash on the * M8/M9/M90/A9 paralysed road traffic in Scotland for a few hours??
for * read any similar roads network in Wales, NI, north of England or wherever.....
'nuff said... getting the old BP up.... ;D

Fair comment....
But, if watching the 6 o'clock news on the telly, how long from wherever you are, road wise, until you get there?? Is it really national news or a regional thing, TBH??
-
I agree with all that's been said. As far as the BBC are concerned (Hope that's OK Amigo), the South West only exists for about 6 weeks per year, and that's only to say how bad the traffic is.
In fairness, nothing actually does happen down here normally, but it would still be nice to get a mention every now and then. ;D

But if road closed for hours it will come in to force but as you said most times it does not affect unless your near to the congestion. :y

agreed.
How long to drive from Lands End to John O'groats, non stop?
Or, more reasonable, even London to Edinburgh?
With info from the London news on Beeb 1?
Will be some chuffin' road block up here in Scotland that lasts more than 7 or 8 hours max! Got sheep that need to get to market and stuff!!

I see the Beeb as far from useless. Generally impartial in their reporting ( :P) particularly on international matters. Just need to redraw the lines to ensure that National News is simply that and not what the Beeb perceive as what they think the rest of the UK should consider important as regards substantially more 'local' issues, simply because they affect things on their reporting centre doorstep....

I think you've had one too many Laphroaigs tonight Broocie.
The BBC only broadcast what matches nicely with their left wing view of the perfect world. After all, one mans terrorist is another's freedom fighter. The BBC frequently use biased and partisan language to describe all manner of international events.
I don't trust a word they say. If you believed what they say, you'd never visit a hospital for fear of never coming out alive, nor would you ever use your credit/debit card for fear of having your life savings stolen. These are just two examples of BBC bull$41t.
My ageing parents are now so scared of going to hospital that they refuse to go under any circumstances. :(

Maybe I was a bit harsh saying the Beeb is rubbish earlier, but I don't think their reporting is that impartial. ::)

You beat me to it. Yes, they always seem to support left-wing views and they have taken on a tabloid feel. Frankly, it's all a bit too "right on" for me.

Rosyth's weather is easy! It'll either be f***ing freezing or horizontal rain!! ::) ::)
Been there! Done that! ;D

I was specifically referring to their website, including the local branch. (There was some info on the local site, but still only the bare minimum to serve the local emotional element.) I long ago gave up on the evening news, you probably have no idea how self-righteous and preachy it is in the states - on the left and the right! It is 100x worse than here.
I go to the websites for daily info and read the Sunday paper for more detailed stuff. None of it is impartial, but I do think that it is pathetic when the ones that are supposed to be the most trustworthy pander sensationalism without supplying important public information. :(
-
Well, I can exclusively report that it's a bit breezy. :y

Sadly, the beeb now = trash tv. All their money goes on crap dramas like knobenders. And BBC news has just become a sensationalist setup like the cheap papers. BBC News 24 still maintains some dignity, but still going downhill.
