Title: Coolant leak and winter.
Post by: Evantonian on 03 November 2009, 15:51:47
Hi, the car just needed a track rod end and a horn to pass the MOT. An ongoing problem is a coolant leak. The tank empties itself over 80 miles or so. The level warning is on. I notice an area on the bulkhead behind the cyl hd where rusty water has been spraying and evaporating. I want to get this fixed soon as I dont want anti freeze disappearing . Anyone else know what it might be that is leaking? The sytem pressure seems ok according to a garage.

Most likely HBV (Heater Bypass Valve).  Fairly easy fix - replace.

Could be coolant bridge (in V at back) or core plug/head gasket if you are really unlucky.

If its driverside it could be the Heater bypass valve but there's quite a few coolant hoses at the rear of the engine.

Thanks guys, I guess it will have to go into the garage. My local Vauxhall dealer is offering a service for £149.00 Is this a worthwhile deal?

It depends what the service covers really.
