Title: Rusty crossmember
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 01 November 2009, 18:46:25
I've noticed my front crossmember, looks quite rusty.

What's the best bet - good sanding and some hammerite?

Or a good coating of engine oil which has always preserved my front members (I'll now await the gags!! ::) ::) :D :D :D)

Wire brush plus hammerite.

I think Miss Zooms approach of slapping oil on her members is best kept away from the car

James save yourself some effort.... Get down your local farm supplies shop and get some milkstone remover, mix it up and liberally coat the X-member with it. It'll turn the rust to a solid black lump then just chassis black or hammerrite over it.

Milkstone remover has phosphoric acid in it, which is the primary ingredient in KuRust and about a 5th of the price :y

What's the best bet -

Either a porn film title or a new online name i'd say. :-)

Good job 'Elf & Safety' didn't see that Lizzie...

With their past form they would have probably locked
your two companions up for not wearing safety
footwear.   ::)
