first of all hi to you all ime new to this site ...
ok my omega has the light with the spanner on . and keeps going into limp mode any help please it driveing me up the wall ive got to go 80miles on thursday and ime worried about this
-
2 main things cause limp mode, gearbox, or cam sensor.
Most likely its the cam sensor, can you get the codes read?
Update your profile with your location, someone near you may have tech2
-
oh ok does the cam sensor cost ££££££££ ..and how do i update my profile sorry to be a pain ...and ime in wolverhampton

Cam sensor is not expensive, think its around £60ish? can't remember.
Easy as pie to replace, go for genuine part, pattern have had a poor history for this.
Get codes read before you go replacing parts though :y
-
Cam sensor is around 60 pounds.
you must buy original part, aftermarket ones don't work on 2.2
-
is there anyway i can do a quick fix just to the weekend as i need it thursday
-
car could work normally from time to time.
But it is 10 minute work to change the cam sensor if that is wrong.
See if anyone can get the codes read first.
How many miles has the car got on clock?

Cam sensor either works or it doesn't, like i say you need to read the codes. Cam sensor is just one possible cause, the gearbox could be giving a code causing same symptoms.
Closest tech2 to you is Brackley (NN13)
Do you have a laptop? Can get a 'cheapo' tech2 off eBay

car has done 150000 full vauxhall servlice history

Good miles, keep on top of those coolant changes :)
-
Well cam sensor usually lasts around 100 000 or a little more so it probably is dead.
Can you check on service history has it been changed anytime in the past?
-
ok at least ive got an idea thanks lads
-
Is the car auto or manual?
-
auto
-
So it also could be the gearbox.
Unfortunately you need the codes read
-
ok but when it isent in limp mode the gearbox is fine does that mean anything?

Does it rev over 4k rpm? Assuming not as you said its in limp mode. Can still be the gearbox, its like a safe mode for it.
-
yes it can rec to that quite easy untill it goes into limp mode ...also how would i tell if the cam sensor has been changed in my service book?
-
One advantage with the 4 pots is that if the cam sensor goes, the car will keep going, only at reduced speed. On the V6's, the engine dies and that's it.
Changing it is fairly easy, if I remember its at the front of the engine just under the belt cover.
To accurately diagnose it you need a Tech 2 or a good code reader (not the Elm 327 ones) there were some cheap chinky ones on fleabay, that were a copy of a moderately expensive one, but we don't talk about them..............

Any half decent code reader should give you the codes, sounds very similar to what happened with mine, would drive ok then just not rev past a certain amount no matter how much i floored it. Changed sensor and hey presto all fine now.
As said before i think part was about 60 quid. But someone local may pop over and read codes for you, don't start spending money on changing parts till your sure thats what it is :y
-
Bushwacker, I'm only in Dudley and can read/clear the codes for you. If it proves to be the crank sensor (as I also believe it is) then I'll talk you through changing it too :y
-
welung666 did you get my pm?
-
Yes matey :y I'll give you a bell later this afternoon :y
-
i seem to have the same problem with my 2.2 , but only seems to go into limp mode when the engine is started and its hot if i start the car when the engine is cold it will start fine.....is that a sign of the cam sensor going?
-
Do you get any warning lights on the dash, would advise getting the codes read better safe than sorry :y
-

hello i had this problem with my 2.2 auto turned out to be as tunnie said my selector switch on the side of the gearbox, changed it with one i bought off one of the lads on here no more limp mode or spanner light on dash have you noticed the lights on the side of the gear lever (p 1 2 3 d r) flashing or all on if so could be your problem ajn
-
SO IS THE SELECTOR SWITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE GEARBOX THE SAME AS THE CAM SENSOR OR NOT ? ?
