Title: Which model to go for...... please ?
Post by: Rent-a-Carb on 05 November 2009, 11:09:13
I have up to £2k cash and have the following requirements;

What model Omega should I go for ?

My simple requirements are;

1. Must be absolutely immaculate inside and out.
2. Year 2000 onwards
3. Nothing less than CDX spec.
4. Auto OR manual.
5. Leather OR cloth.
6. Colours...silver, greys, black rather than blues and reds.
7. Below 120k miles if poss.
8. More toys the better and condition is THEE most important factor.
9. Estate OR saloon.

I dont think the above is too fussy ?

I would like advice on what I should go for ? Ive had high performance cars, cruise vehicles, auto, manual....running costs are NOT important over looks, class and performance.

I can move and pay cash immediately.

Many thanks.

Elite.

Has all the toys, if you find it too soft on suspesion fit, MV6 springs and shocks.

If toys are top of the list, then an Elite. If handling trumps that, an MV6, although the Elite suspension could be firmed up easily to get the best of both worlds.

If running costs are no issue then the 3.0/3.2 V6. Bear in mind, though, that the 3.2s didn't come with a manual transmission.

Go and see a few actual cars, then decide.  £2000 is a good budget for an Omega, so you should get a nice late car with fair miles and in good condition.  It sounds like a facelift 3.0 Elite would fit the bill-plenty at that money.

Perhaps wait until the right car get advertised on this site?

I chose a facelift 2.2CD auto and find it to be quick enough, 28-30mpg and has enough bits-extras like cruise were cheap and easy to add.  I don't like the velour trim much as your clothes stick to it-may swap to leather eventually.

If choosing again, I would look at the car as a "base car" and value the history, the last two years bills, condition and correct mileage (not clocked-saw a few!!) as being most important.  You can add spec and change bits easily (MV6 springs) and cheaply enough if you like the car you see.

Happy hunting  :y

Cheers all....I am trying to line a few up to view, it seems they are at all corners of the country  :-/ but I know you have to travel for the right car....

I think the Elite or MV may suit the bill and the idea of an auto is nice :)

I'll let you know when Im fixed up.

I recently bought myself an MV6 auto 2.6 estate - and loving it!

Not the best MPG, but I don't care.

Yet! ;D

The wife has a 2.5 Elite estate - loads of toys including phone, auto-dip mirror, sunroof, leather, blah blah blah and yes, the suspension is alot softer, but after a long blast from York to Newquay by way of Oxford, nice and easy.
Oddly, the Elite seems much better on fuel. :-/

I do prefer the MV6 though. :y

Pedro....you lucky pair  ;D

I'm chasing a 51 plate MV6 via autotrader, burgundy (not sure about that) @ £1800 and a green MV6 Estate for sale at a dealers 51 plate no leather though at £2200.
