Hehe... was just thinking 'ah I will tell Ray that someone else has a problem like him....' then realized it was you Ray!  ;D

Just for a bit more info, the idle is fine for about 8 seconds, then it has a 2-3 second period running a bit lumpy, then its fine again. This cycle repeats over and over.

If you press the accelerator down a fraction and hold the revs at about 850rpm, it runs extremely rough. :-/

There was some fault codes that came up, will dig them out and post them in a sec…

Just had the exact same problem with my tractor take the vacuum pipe of the egr valve and check all the small pipes coming off the brake servo big vacuum pipe for kinks or flattend ones the two pipes disappear into the bulk head on the o/s.
you could also try cleaning out the swirl pot and changing air and fuel filters

Forgot to say try putting a injector treatment in the fuel. the tick over should be 600rpm if that doesn't work you'l have to take it to a fuel injection specialist to see if any injectors need replacing or the fuel pump needs adjusting.
my problem started when the engine stopped whilst traveling it turned out the cotter on the end of the fuel pump shredded luckely chain stayed on thats when all the new faults appeard (34 64 96).had to increase fuel to injectors for 34 and 64 solved its self and 96 was a crushed pipe. I pulled vac pipe off egr and its running better
