Title: Should I be concerned at a 2.2 being underpowered
Post by: Rent-a-Carb on 06 November 2009, 18:19:48
I'm trying to understand the engine model differences....

I have several cars lined up to view from a mint Saloon 03 2.2 Elite 90k FSH Leather @ £1700......a 51 plate 2.6 saloon Elite 110k FSH @ £1200 and a MV6 3.2 saloon 2001 @ £1800

Are there major power differences ?

All are auto....

I do a mix of 50/50 motorway and urban driving....fuel/cost are unimportant !

The 2.2 has 144 bhp, and I had one for 15 months, it only had 36k on it when I got rid of it. It wasn't bad at all, but I think the V6 is the better engine. The 2.2 is adequate, that's it. The V6's are better...in my opinion. The 2.6 has 180 bhp and the 3.2 has 217.

as mentioned 2.2 does the job, it sits at 80mph all day long as good as a V6. But if you want pace, get a 3.0/3.2

I think it very much depends on what you are used to as a comparison point.

I was quite happy with 2.0's until I went to V6's, when I had a 2.2 as a hire car I was really disappointed.

If fuel isn't an issue then go for the 3.2

Depends with the V6s if you want handling or toys

2.6 goes quite well anyway

That only exists in diesel form

Must be a 3.2 Elite?
If economy is not a factor, go V6-it gives the full Omega experience!

Simply put....Yes !  Go for a V6...

Long term, you WILL regret having a 2.2.

2.2 with Elite bits but no rear blind and no TC

Perhaps someone wanted a 2.2 Elite so thought they'd upspec a more basic spec?  Badges??

No rear blind so not elite, and no petrol 2.2 was sold as elite spec only the 2.2DTi/2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2,  :y

And what an awful exhaust.

That is not a true Elite, firstly 2.2 petrol was never fitted to Elite. I notice it has a MID, Elite of that year would have had a different screen. Can't tell if it has bose, its got a horrible looking 3rd party head unit.

Walk away.

Wasn't there a special edition of the last year's production, an "executive" or something along those lines (may be wrong) that had nearly Elite spec.

In any case I would go for the V6 every time  :y

I've just done a check, it comes back as being a CD model. And it has no xenon's fitted, which were standard on the Elite's. You can tell because you can see in picture 4 the adjuster for the headlights, and xenon's don't have an internal adjuster switch. Someone's trying to pass it off as an Elite. Oh, and all later Elite's had rear parking sensors which this one doesn't.

Somethings odd here-tried searching what appears to be FL03 KKT-no response, not listed.

Tried FL03 KXT and got this:
We've identified your car as a VAUXHALL VECTRA ELITE DTI 16V (1994cc DIESEL, 5 Door HATCHBACK).

I used http://www.freecarcheck.org and got the details of Vauxhall Omega CD auto. Which I believe. I think it is a CD, and someone is trying to pass it off as an elite by fitting elite wheels and rear boot spoiler.

Unless the plate has been fiddled with for the ad to prevent cloning, this comes back as a Vectra DTI Diesel Estate.

Other things in the ad don't add up to.

Intuition says look elsewhere, regardless of the plate...

;D thanks! I think the problem is that it hasn't been upspecced, it's only got the elite wheels and boot spoiler. I think the seller is just trying it on. I've emailed the seller, it could be a genuine mistake...but somehow I doubt it. That is one thing that does annoy me, people lying about cars they are selling.

At the bottom of the listing in all the ebay T & C's it has a link saying more info on a 2003 Omega CD......

Kind of gives it away - PLUS the seller looks like a breaker of Audi's looking at his other items for sale.

Have we blown enough holes in this "Elite" yet??  ;)

That's what I actually meant-put some bits off a higher spec to up the spec (not designation)  :y

My sub 200KG 1975 Kawasaki Z1 makes more horses than the 2.2 (the 2.2 MIG hits 1700 KG with ease), so I'll leave you to think about that one.
