Title: Central locking solenoid

Could anyone help me with front door solenoids as i have both front doors gone down is anyone out there repairing them or is there anyway of getting them cheeper than GM £60 plus the dredded vat

Dave, if you dismantle the motor, inside you will find two microswitches. Measure the resistance of the normally closed contacts, if one is more than .5ohm or so, replace the switch.
Less than a pound from Maplin I think.

Hi Mike have checked switches one is ok the other is 11.7ohms so going to replace that one.
Had a thought when checking the switches it is ok to check them in situ and you do not need to remove before checking resistance./

As long as you measure directly at the switch contacts it's a valid result.

11.7 ohms is high enough to cause a problem, the contact is series with the motor.

Avoid bending the solder spills when you fit the replacement, it seems to shorten the life of the switch.

One I have in front of me has these markings; Omron, SS-5GLD, 3133RAN 5A 125VAC, 3A 250VAC.
It's the hole and terminal spacing that's most important. I think this may have come from Farnell.

Found that if you go to RS you can get exact copies
DB2 part no  517-858
DB3 part no  517-820
Have ordered these will post results next week one again thanks alot Mike
