Title: Nightmare with seat
Post by: BlackV6 on 15 November 2009, 19:04:35
Hi all

Managed to buy a lovely leather interior and was fitting it today - all went well until the drivers seat.

Managed to completely round off the 'star' bolt and ended up having to drill it out so now only have three bolts holding my drivers seat in. Eek

My question is ... if i drill straight through will I be able to move the exhaust heat sheild and put a nut and bolt straight through and put the sheild back?

It sound really butcher doesn't it ?? but there's not a lot of meat to be able to drill and tap again

Any help really appreciated

Cheers andy

have you got a picture of said item, was thinking hammering a standard smaller socket over offending bolt and try undoing it then

Take the seat back out, disconnect the battery, balance a 10mm nut on the top of the damaged bolt and plug weld it to the end of the bolt. Then simply unscrew it with a 10mm socket ;) I have a few spare seat bolts if you need one :y

hi - I did get the bolt out but now trying to secure the new seat down as the threads are knackered on that one corner

OIC could you not get the correct size tap and re-cut the threads? Failing that take the heastshield off, fit a suitable nut and bolt and re-fit the heatshield ;)

I did the same thing myself - but managed to chisel a piece out of the side of the bolt and then use the mini-slot to start the bolt turning ......... Stress level was high I can assure you ,,,,,,,,,

I did wonder about cutting new thread but it's a right mess where i drilled it out ... but you reckon a nut and bolt through will be okay? I guessed it might be stronger but wanted a few opionions

You'd be better using an allen head bolt as it'll need to be low enough in the runner for the seat to clear the head and make sure you use a nylock nut :y
