Is the coolant clean?
Does it smell of anything other than coolant?
When it's overheating are the radiator hoses hard as if pressurised or as normal and easily squeezed?

Ok then, next.....

If stationary and it starts to get hot does the fan kick in... low speed first then a higher speed as it gets close to the 100 on the temp gauge?

It won't, it'll come on slow speed then high speed as the temp gets close to 100°. Are the top and bottom radiator hoses both hot?

Blocked rad then..... Back flush it a few times.

Take both hoses off and run a hose in one till it runs clear out of the other, swop over and do it the other way and repeat until the water is clear all the time. Reconnect the hoses, refill the system and try it again ;) :y

If it got worse, that suggests the rad is at fault, and it just moved the blockage along.

Take the rad out, put it on a level surface and fill with boiling water, then feel by hand on the rad for any 'cool' spots
