Title: Swop a 2.5 engine for a 3.0 or 3.2?
Post by: blackviper90210 on 22 November 2009, 23:04:42
Hi all,

I have a facelift 2.5 auto saloon, can you do a straighht swop from my 2.5 to a 3.0 or 3.2?

Is it a simple case of lift one out drop one in, or is there lots more hassle involved?

Cheers, Dave :-?

you would need the ar35 gearbox 2 the ar25 box wouldnt handle the extra power

Like sparkyw666 said above, you would need the AR35 gearbox.

The 3.0 would destroy the AR25 box in no time!

Engine wise, everything should plug straight in.

The 2.5 ECU will run a 3.0 fine too, so no messing about with keys / immobilizes etc  :y

You'dneed to keep the 3.0 electrickey cos the 3.2 is drive-by-wire.  :y

there was a similar thread on this a couple of days ago, but with a 2.6. You'll need to fit the 2.5 cam covers with leads, dispac and dis bracket then fit the cable operated plenum. The 3.2 uses drive by wire long nose plenum....or do some early 3.2 models use a cable operated long nose plenum? That might work "i guess"? Not sure on that one. But dbw def no good in the 2.5.

Hopefully you can get the ar35 box with the 3.2 lump?

Re read.
3.0 would be a straight swap.

so in a nutshell, the 3.2 would be a bit complicated to fit to the car,but the 3.0 would be pretty straightforward but you will need the gearbox to go with it. :y

Thanks for the info. So stick to the 3.0 and get the matching gearbox! Sorted.

Thanks everyone.
