I have just bought omega 2.5v6 on a 99 and it idles at 450rpm how do you turn up the idle speed

You can`t. Anything between 450 and 600 is considered normal.

Mine always idled (smoothly) at 550.

If it is rough or struggling then in might be a symptom of a sticking ICV (idle control valve) or a host of other minor ailments.

Start by cleaning the idle control valve and checking for fault codes. Cleaning the crankcase breathers would be a good move also.

Don't think so Rob, idle engine speed should be higher than than, around 700-750 RPM.
400 is too low.
It looks like idle control valve isn't working properly

450 idle is not unusual for a V6 with aircon off.  Switch on the a/c and it will lift to around 500/550.  Its non adjustable as said, but cleaning the idle control valve, if fitted, will ensure its running at its best.

450-500rpm - Aircon off

650-700rpm - Aircon on

Not adjustable and note, the rev counter accuracy varies!
