Title: Still got a little clunk
Post by: toller on 30 November 2009, 13:06:19
I've changed my wishbones over a per the guide on here, simple enough, i've also swapped over the droplinks as they're wrecked,  i've also changed the anti rollbar bushes.

The car is driving much much better and the constant clunky rattle is now gone however I do get the odd clunk when i'm going over fairly big holes, it seems to happen more often if i go over a bump with the steering at or near full lock.

Is there anything else in that area that wears out and can produce a knocking sound,  everything down there seems solid so i'm at a bit of a loss now.

The lock stop is a little buffer on the back of the wishbone.

If you go over a bump with steering against the stop it grates up & down & makes a horrible noise.

Is that what you are experiencing?

I changed all the above too and the car still didn't feel right. I changed my steering Idler this weekend and it's 'tightened' up the feel considerably.

I used to feel some clicking/knocking through the steering but this is now gone.

**DO NOT BUY A CHEAP £15 JOBBY, THEY DON'T WORK!**

I wasted money on a cheap one. Get this one:

Also check your shocks are mounted/tightened correctly.

Cheers for that, i'll have a look at the steering idler when i get it back from the MOT place.

Took it for it's re test today only to be told later in the day they can't do it as their phone line is down so the computer can't dial out to the VOSA database thingy,  got to wait till tomorrow now.

Typical.

might be the dampner on the top of the spring, good test is jack wheel up and kick it, the wheel not the jack,
