Title: Camshaft locking tool
Post by: Bionic on 11 December 2009, 15:53:01
Can anyone give me the dimensions, and a drawing hopefully of a V6 Ecotec Camshaft locking tool so I can make one. Once done I can then loan it to anyone in the Leicester Area.
Thanx................

Not as easy as that as you also need the crankshaft tool and timing gauge on the V6.

Given the cost of repairing an engine that is NOT set up correctly, and the cost of buying a "proper" kit on ebay ... I would never go for a "home made" setup to be honest.

As my sig says... I have a "proper" kit if anyone in the swidnod area ever needs to borrow one .. :)

I accept you may be a highly qualifed and skilled toolmaker ... but I'm a highly qualified coward !!!!

Ouch,,
Not a Qualified toolmaker but over the years I have had to make many a 'special tool' only available then to the main dealers. Just thought that this may be possible. As I live in Leicester its a bit too far for most that have them to loan. That and most require an inordinate number of posts to qualify.

Doesn't take long to get the post count up (don't be fooled by mine... It's been nobbled by an Admin ::) ::) ::))... And I'm sure that someone will lend a kit to you :y :y

Not saying it's impossible to rig some kind of locking kit, but given the number of bits & the fact that the 'spectacles' bit needs to be correct so you can check the accuracy of the final alignment of the cams, then you'd end up no better than if you used "rack o'th'eye" and the marks/lines on the cam belt.  :y  :y  :y

this was just a reasonable picture to use, not a recomendation of the make  ;)
