Title: Beep after switching off
Post by: Merlindriver on 27 November 2009, 11:24:09
Just recently my 3.2 Elite has ocasionally beeped at me after switching off and removing the key.  The lights aren't left and it doesn't do it all the time.  It's the sort of beep tone you'd get from a radio if putting in the code, and it bleeps a couple of times.  Any ideas?

that is your powersounder batteries dying.

either disconnect it and forget about it
change batteries
change whole sounder.

its under drivers side wiper scuttle.

If you do nothing .. you will shortly start to get spurious alarms....  for some reason always around 2 am   :)

There is also a very small chance that as the batteries decay they leak, cause a short in the power sounder (which has a permanent live feed) which then causes a fire.  :(

Not being alarmist .. it HAS happened .. but only rarely.....

as previously said ..

New power sounder is less than £40 and takes 15 minutes to change.

Some guys are removing completely - although how that affects insurance I'm uncertain .....

Some folks are "splitting" the casing, replacing the batteries, then somehow re-glueing the casing.

I went for option 1 ....   :)

I have recently changed the batteries so not sure if it's that. It's hard to tell exactly where the beep is coming from but I'll persevere! >:(

Matches the symptoms perfectly.

4 (iirc) beeps on leaving car.

Only other common beeping issue is aftermarket sony headunits...

a "beeping" issue in more ways than one  ;D

Correct jim,the sony head units did beep when turning the ignition off,but surely you would know weather it was coming from inside the car or out. ::)

Yup, spanking new Vartas with a healthy residual voltage.  No random alarms either so I'll keep guessing.

I have had Pioneer units that do that too  >:(

Had your power sounder started beeping to give you a warning?

Do you think a 5 A inline fuse would have prevented the fire????

Got mine from Ebay, not this site (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Varta-Mempac-3-6V-150mAh-Ni-MH-rechargable-battery_W0QQitemZ250533832014QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET?hash=item3a54fae54e#ht_494wt_754) but they do look exactly the same.  They only have 3 pins instead of the 4 on the originals but there are many holes in the PCB so they fitted fine.

Bu&&er, the Power Sounder and alarm have started going off occasionally so it looks like it could well be the batteries aren't taking or holding the charge.  Wondering if it could be the charging circuit in the Sounder - in any case it's going to be disconnected, again  >:(
