The windscreen seal on my 2.5 V6 has come loose at the bottom. As a result, the padding in the scuttle is filling up with water like a sponge, and this has been dripping onto the DIS and killed it.
Obviously I will need to dry the scuttle out - but can anyone advise on methods of getting the windscreen seal stuck back down in place? :y

I find this is a job best left to a decent windscreen fitter-drop into one of the windscreen chain places and ask meekly for help.
They usually won't take any money, or will be chuffed with a fiver-cheaper than buying the sealant.
Hope this helps :y

auto glass via insurance. But then i needed a new screen anyway. ;)

nail + hammer + a little force + call to autoglass (make sure your fully comp)

Without wanting to sound holier-than-thou.. insurance fraud (which is that that amounts to) isn't an option, for me :y

Hence the go to the windscreen guys and ask for help response :y
I had a (non-Omega) screen taken out and put in for £25 a few years back, but you will probably get away with a re-seal for a fiver or so :y

seeek and seal (Windscreen repair)should fix it, have to put some masking tape over it and leve for an hour, then use some white spirit to clean off the exsess, it not cheap but it better than having window out and new one fitted. £10 a can.

James james james. I didnt say anything about damaging the screen. Just visit auto glass and discuss your options, they can be very helpfull. Ime it will come down to weather you want to pay £70 excess for a screen or bung em a couple of quid for some goo. Costs nothing to talk, nor is that illegal. Last I heard anyway. :-)

Heh.... a tube of gripfill will be much less risky ;D

The actual windscreen seal will have no effect on water getting on the DIS.
The rubber snap in trim (which is not part of the seal) might but, I am not personaly convinced as this does little more than reduce wind noise.
The usual culprit is the section where the scuttle cover sits on the scuttle metal work.
-
Sorry, I should have been clearer - I think it's this trim, that runs along the bottom of the screen, that is the culprit...

You mean the rubber on the edge of the scuttle panel that rests against the outside of the windscreen?
First thought in that case is: are all the little clips in place underneath it?
Sealing that using sealant will be a pain because the scuttle panel needs to be removable.
If the rubber strip is knackered try the stealers for a new rubber strip or just buy a scuttle panel from a breaker.

Actually, I'm being a numpty. The scuttle panel fits under this seal, doesn't it?
Is water leaking into the car or just behind the scuttle?
Kevin

Yep it's rubber, it's not connected to the scuttle itself, but it's the bit under the windscreen that the scuttle tucks underneith?
Scuttle itself, is fine..... (albeit wet!)

Yup, not all the way i think, that rubber lip runs along the bottom, the scuttle slips underneath and goes up as far as the glass i think....

Yep that's correct..... the seal is attached to the car not the scuttle...
I reckon it's this seal causing the scuttle to fill with rain?
I've just bought a genuine coil pack (ouch!!) so I'm keen this one doesn't get killed by water ingress! ::)
-
OK. So, as I now recall it the seal is supposed to sit over the edge of the scuttle and divert water running down the windscreen over the lip and into the channel inside the scuttle panel.
Next question: Has the lip that the scuttle panel slides under fallen apart or is the water getting under the seal between the windscreen and the rubber?

It must be getting underneath the scuttle as you say, water normally runs over the lip into the scuttle, then down and away to the drains.
The rubber lip along the bottom (where the glass / rubber meet) must be leaking, allowing water to go in underneath the scuttle in to the foam, and then onto the DIS.
I'd be tempted to mix up some araldite, and smear it along the edge of the rubber lip where it meets the windscreen. Its clear so won't stand out a mile.....

...
Yep, that's exactly it...

The water comes through the joint between the 2 scuttle cover sections so check they are fitted correctly and interlocked correctly plus make sure that the smaller piece is sat correctly on the metal frame below it.
Nothing you do to that lower windscreen trim section (its not a seal) will stop it.
