Title: Spark plug torque?

The forum's guide gives Sparking Plugs - 25Nm (18.43 ft/lbs) (216.28 in/lbs)
for the spark plug torque.
I did mine up as tight as I dare but could not get to this.
is this right? The old ones came out with a gentle pull of the torque bar.
only used to working on old viva/magnum/firenza's!!!!!!!!!
My know how is well out of date :-[
The guides are very usefull especially for a knumbnuts like me. :)

Finger tight and then a quarter turn has never done me wrong on any car.

25nm is not all that tight, are you sure you had the torque wrench on the correct setting  :question.

You won't need a quarter turn on taper seat plugs if you ever want them out again ........  ;) ;D ;D

quarter turn doesnt seen tight enough to me :-? Although it does seem to be the normal approach. I've encountered that sort of tension when removing them and found it very loose, but then on the other hand when spinning them out through the length of the thread it feels very sticky and horrible, with the age old   "steel bolt in an aluminium thread"   problem it wouldn't take much for the plug to seize in the aluminium head. Quarter turn doesnt seem enough to fully crush the crush washer on the plug, which is how tight i do them done by feel.

So ,just to be awkward, 25nm does seem to tight with concerns about the plug seizeing or braking off in the head on removal. So my preferance is to wind them in until the crush washer is compressed and the plug feel fully seated and stop there.

25Nm is required to compress the main washer......the finger tight plus quarter turn approach is a litle to hit and miss I would say as its very dependent on the state of the threads, the crap around the threads etc etc

It can be a little bit disconcerting - with new plugs, when the washer is first compressed, for the first time, it feels like the plug's going a bit loose - as if it's going to break or strip the thread  ;D

Mine went to 25nm without a problem
