In my Elite i have a black covering/finish on several areas, one being the surround by the gear stick...it wears off to leave a very shiney plastic underneath but looks untidy....Its also on the doors side panels.
What do you guys do to touch it up...if anything.
I could remove it entirely BUT then I'd end up with shiney pieces of cheap looking plastic all over...any advice ?

nothing can be done, its the soft touch spray on that a lot of car companies are now using.
Any bodges will look even worse i feel.

Yep and it seems to be wearing off worse on mine on the passenger side door cards. Must be those long nails, not mine :-X :y
Not a great deal can be done me thinks, funny stuff like sprayed on rubber.

Dippy huh....

My mig is the same, thought about getting a new gear surround from VX Dealer.

Mine is also suffering from this problem aswell, and the kids think its funny to keep scratching it off >:(.Did think the same thing though about taking it all off,and reckon it should all blend in nice,as most other stuff in the car is black anyway.Still its got to look better than some of it scratched off in places. :-/

Has anyone taken it all off do we know. Would like to see a pic before I get radical ?

Mines the same am considering spraying with Halfords satin black, did this a few years back on my cav, and it looked well and lasted. Will need to strip the trims off so waiting for better weather.

I have to agree with tunnie because this happened to a previous mig of mine and I managed to tidy it up quite nicely using an aerosol spray. I used Blackboard paint first on a spare piece of trim. This was really a crappy finish and got dirty very quick because it attrracted dirt and dust so I then tried Matt Black which was a big improvement but still attracted dirt quickly (dust made it look grey), then Satin Black and of the 2 the Satin Black looked best, not aesthetically perfect though. I then tried an idea that I had read about in a foreign motor magazine and used a Black Flocking aerosol. Took ages to perfect the technique and get an even finish but in the end it looked brilliant! The big letdown was that it wore off even quicker than the original soft touch paint! In the end I had to compromise and use the Satin Black. I soon got used to it and did not regret it after I had priced up the replacement parts, the cost of which made me cringe. (why do the VX pillox have to be so greedy) Give it a try, tunnie and I are probably right, just take your time and get them clean and grease free before you spray.GudLuk
