as some of you know, i put a 3ltr lump in my estate last month and eventually ........... it works ;D cheers daz :y :y
right then
its a bit of a long one so bear with me
car started ok then gradually started to run badly ( no pull at low revs )
went for the normal ............ plugs ( new ) ......... ht leads ( proven ) ............ coil pack ( proven ) so after investigation, remembered that the lt plug on the coil pack was dodgy so i pulled the loom apart and soldered in a new section of loom with a proper plug on it :y
so i go for a drive and it all seems ok :y
next thing i know, one of the cats collapce so i replace both of them and off we go again :y
and now .................... wait for it ................... it throwing up codes 98 ( 02 sensor 2 low volts .............. 13 (02 sensor 1 open circuit) and 38 (o2 sensor 1 low voltage) >:( >:(
and here is the realy good bit ...................... drive car down the road and its running rough ............... coughing and Flatulenceing along then as if by magic ............ the eml light comes on and the car starts to run perfect :y
ideas please before i torch it :'( :'( and im only half joking :-/ :-/

Need to check wiring to lamdas as a first port of call.
Runs well when eml comes on, as the ecu knows there is a fault with the sensor(s) and substitutes calculated values in place of actuals. Won't be an ideal substitution, more of a 'get you home/to garage' setting

cheers tb
might be pishing in the wind here but if the 2 02 sensor plugs got swapped round, would it cause something similar ?
just that i have had similar codes coming up since the engine change

potentially, yes. that would also explain the failed cats.

now doing nearly 28 mpg and thats round town in the snow ;D
i worked it out as between 12 and 13 mpg before ;D
no juddering or nowt when you drive it ;D
infact put it if 5th at 25 mph and give it a inch of gas pedel and it pulls away without as much as a groan ;D
well happy now
cheers daz and the boy for all your help :y

Excellent news :D

Lol, the poor old ecu had no chance, it would be making the cylidners richer, looing for a correspeonding lambda change....nothing, richer, nothing richer, nothing, richer....FAULT LIGHT and then limp home mode.

tell me about it ;D ;D
it was dumping fuel into the drivers side cat and not burning it until i booted it up a hill and as the revs pased 4000, it sparked and whoosh :y
car behind me came flying up ............... horn going ............ flashing light and arms waveing ;D
i pulled over and jumped out quick ( thinking he was up for a rumble )
it turned out that the exhaust had flames and sparks flying out of the back and he thought i was going too blow up ::) ::) :-[ :-[
had a look under the car and the rear of the cat was glowing bright orange ::)
it made my ar*e twitch i'll tell yeh ;D ;D
