Title: I hit an old deer and need some bumper advice
Post by: Greg2041 on 22 December 2009, 18:05:20: Yes it is true. An old deer ran infront of my car whilst I was travelling at considerable speed and has badly damaged my bumper.

Now I have a problem. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these 2 part numbers?

90487243 - £130 (Black)

90511994 - £307 (Primed)

The main dealer say that the second one is listed as primed whereas the first one is shown as black.

Is that the only difference? The panel that goes over the front bumper says only use the second part number.

Post by: Entwood on 22 December 2009, 18:22:22: Don't know how well this will work .. but both parts are listed as the same .. the ONLY differemce being the section they are listed under ... and I don't know what all the numbers in the top of each section mean .. :(

Still not sure what the difference is?!?!

Post by: ianu on 22 December 2009, 18:35:28: ..sounds like you were lucky to get away with just the bumper damage. I hit one at 70mph a few weeks back and it wrote the car off - massive damage behind the bumper.
Must admit the car took the impact incredibly well - kept running and was able to drive the car home safely. It was beyond economical repair for the insurance company though...:-(
Every cloud though - got a 2.6 Elite now...

There are some other bits broken as well : (

I would suggest you need the primed for an Elite, reason being the bit at the bottom is colour coded on the Elite but is plain black on the rest of them.

An accountant mate of mine killed a deer in the early hours doing quite a lot of front end damage. Not knowing what procedure to follow he loaded it into the back of his estate and took it to the local police station. They tut tutted, told him to leave the matter in their hands and that they would dispose of the carcass.
Did I mention that he was a vegetarian?

Post by: hotel21 on 22 December 2009, 20:24:48: I have previously hit a deer with an Omega and, if it had went through the insurance route, would have been quoted for a bumper, bumper bar, nearside bar mount, headlight/washer bottle, HID headlamp unit and lower headlamp trim, plus refinishing.

As it was, it cost me a bumper bar and mounting bracket only in parts, plus time/paint & materials.

Headlamp mounting bracket was plastic welded, as was the bumper.

Washer bottle reshaped itself once set into the paint oven. Panel beater said its a form of memory plastic - get it heated and cooled and it will retake its original shape!

Lower light trim was fixed with a small piece of plasic sikkaflexed onto its end wo that it held into place as originally intended.

All in all, I was lucky that several hundred quids worth of parts/labour only cost me a handshake or two (brother was the painter) plus the cost of the bumper bar.

Worth investigating further, if a painter/panel beater in a workshop near you does 'homers' and needing a few quid for Christmas? Saves an insurance claim as well.... ;)

He replied ,"Oh was she hurt?"
"Dead", I replied.

It was only then that he realised that I was talking about the wild type!

when i had volvo, woman at petrol pump reversed in to me rit off her car i just had a scratch, Ford Ka ::) ::) ;D

Anyway I fitted the Primed one because the guy told me that the Black one is a poorer quality (its not as thick) one they tend to use in insurance repairs to save the insurance company money. I know, yeah its a rip foff by the insurance companies but there again we knew that already.
As always, you pays your money and takes your choice. The Black can be likened to the dreaded 'AfterMarket clones).
