Title: I Know i have been done
Post by: Craig_R on 14 December 2007, 23:03:09
well its only taken me 1.5 years to work this out but i have been done on the mileage on my omega when i bought it.

I found an old recept in the back of the car from a garage in poland i think from some work that had been carried out on it back in 08/05 and the recorded mileage was 105080 km but i think this was 105080 miles as in europe they would not spend the time converting it from miles in to kilometers

if it is KM that would still make it 65,000 odd miles and when i bought the car it had 62,000 on the clock from its mot 2 months earlier it had 60,455.

so it went from what i can work out from 105080 km or miles in 08/05 to 60455 miles in 04/06

looks like i have been had and never knew it so i guess i am on either about 150,000 miles now or about 80,000 i have no way of telling  :-[

Hopefully the rest of the car does not show the mileage that you have worked out....   :-?

If you have 150k miles you should have a shiny smooth if not worn steering wheel, pedals with very little rubber on one side, and carpets with holes...

At 80k the car should look a bit more decent.

I suspect that garage in Poland did convert the miles to km? It works out as 65k (in 2005), so the car may have been clocked but not by 70k...

Also, clockers typically aim at reducing the mileage by a believable figure so that it is not obvious. Usually by replacing the instrument panel with one from a low-mileage write-off.

A good thing about the Omega is they wear the miles well :y

But that could be a bad thing as its easy to turn the clock back :(

Does the V5 show it was declared new when 1st registered......in which case it should be possible to contact previous owners to check history of it.

It seems to had a stay in Poland.........so its possible, clocks may have been swapped about for km/hr and back to mph.

It does have a 4 pot clock in it doesnt it?
