hello again omega chums..n merry xmas..
when i start my 2.6 elite (01 reg)i get a loud buzzing noise from behind front drivers side wheel?? it stops after 10mins or so??and dont affect driving or performance in any way..its just annoying
i'v not had chance 2have a proper look due to snow and coldness(i know i know what a wimp your saying!lol!)
i just wondered if any ones been thru this and can shed some light on the problem
it sounds like a pump??i'v been told it cant be the self levelling system as it onlt does the rear wheels? if thats true i dont know
thanx for any inside or advice my freinds.. :y :y ;) ;)

Secondary Air Injection.
Disconnect it. It's useless.
Mine sounds like a Jet Plane on take-off. I'll be disconnecting mine as soon as the weather allows.
-
whats it there for then chief??..is it easy is to get to?
-
The secondary air injection (SAI) system blows air into the exhaust during warm up to help get the catalytic converters up to temperature.
It's easy enough to unplug, and if you can put up with the noise, then wait until the weather is better. It wont do any harm making the noise. Worst case scenario is the pump will give up all together.... no big issue.

ha ha ha another bloody useless device vauxhall bolt to keep them quids in when it goes wrong then!!nice 1 mate ur a star merry xmas and happy new year...
cheers..

The SAI pump on my pre facelift 2.5 V6 was in front of the passenger side front wheel.
The 2.6 V6 doesn't have an SAI pump.
My 2003 Elite saloon has the self levelling pump in front of the drivers side front wheel. Soon after starting it runs (quietly) for a few seconds and thats it.
If yours is running for 10 minutes there is something wrong.

As the clever chap said ^^^^^
Check the rear shockers for an air pipe adrift.... The air compressor is in the drivers wheel arch. :y

Oh Man! I really hate it when I offer bad advice.
I can only apologise to the OP.

I thought that the Secondary Air Injection was not fitted to the 2.6s? Its fitted in the NS wheelarch anyway, not the drivers.
Its fitted so it activates on a cold startup and lessens the exhaust emmissions levels then cuts out when the engine reaches running temperature, that all it does. Mine is on and it works perfectly so I have no intention of removing it.
Sounds more like its a part of the suspension self levelling system to me. Whatever it is if its VX bits they will COST!

Yeap no SAI on 2.6's or 3.2's, oh and my car ;D
The SAI is under the passenger wing
The self leveling pump is under the drivers wing :y

As others have said, self levelling pump.
Possible rear shocks have been changed to non self levellers (in which case, pull the relay), or a signifcant air leak, or a sensor fault.

Dont worry mate, there's no shortage of know alls on here to put threads back on track.
The 2.6 and 3.2 loose a fair bit of emmissions gubbins. Icv egr sai all gone.
Sits back and waits to be corrected by aformentioned know alls....;D

2.6 and 3.2 lose egr and sai as the engine itself meets more stringent emissions.
ICV integgrated into the DBW electronic throttle, which can do the jon of both icv and the old mechanical throttle

Interesting as I've been barking up the wrong tree with the wifes Elite as what I thought was the SAI pump isn't as the noise we have is definately at the front offside, so it must be the self levelling suspension pump. Do Elite saloons have this? I know the estates did. Ta.

Pulled the self levelling fuse to prove and that is the problem. I'll leave it out for now until some better weather to see what the problem is.

All Elites have it from the factory, trouble is self level shocks are expensive at the trade price so sometimes stock shocks are fitted. Trade club card brings sl items to around 150 ish a pair.
Self levelling will set it's hight each time you start up. So, afaik, dont load or un load with the engine running as it wont know to set to the new hight...not that its too much to worry about as you've obviously not missed it. ;)
