Title: gearbox help

driving last night, gears started to slip   (auto box )engine reving, not getting any were, smoke pouring out from gearbox, bad smell ( like gas)

recovered by rac,  got no gears at all now, put it into drive, and it just revs, this sounds lots of pennys

Did you get a warning light come up on dash?

Tunnie is probably right with the idea of low ATF, however, if the gearbox got hot enough for smoke to be pouring from it, I think I'd be looking for A N Other gearbox. An auto 'box rebuild can easily cost £1000.  :(
