Title: Oil Light
Post by: terry big timber on 28 December 2009, 15:00:01
Nadolig Llawen from West Wales. Merry Christmas.

Can someone please tell me what is the oil capacity of a V6 ?  Have just checked my luvly MV6 and there was no oil showing on the stick. She has just gulped about three quarters of a gallon.

Yes. I know I'm a prat for letting it get so low but I haven't ignored a warning light. -  The light works when the ignition is switched on. I am just a bit worried that I might have done some lasting damage .

Don't rely on the oil pressure light! By the time it has come on, the engine will be knackered.

There should be an oil level check on the MID, but there is no substitute for a regular check of the dip stick. Then again, if you're changing it at sensible intervals (5k or so) it's unlikely to need toppoing up between IME.

Capicity is 6 litres, the light is only for pressure, it won't tell uoi if you have no oil in it though. I'd have thought you should have a level message though on the display.  :-/

Oh - well it was probably half full! I think I have probably got away with it.

Not so much got away with it, you need to find where the oil has gone! Check everywhere for signs of oil in the engine bay.
